What inspires Lady Kate?

Hello March and WELCOME Autumn!  This year I want to share with you what inspires Lady Kate each month.  The things we see, read, listen to and experience that inspire our designs and generally make us tick.

Starting with March, and the biggest inspiration we could ever hope for - rain!!  The change in the landscape here in Narrabri has been nothing short of glorious in the last few weeks, with over 300ml falling - more than we received in all of 2019!

The grass is green and knee-high, the creeks are swollen and the gumboots that have been by the back door in case I need to fight off a snake are now covered in heavenly mud.

It was against this backdrop that we shot our AW20 campaign on the banks of the Macquarie River in Trangie (you can see a little sneak peek in the image above).  It was a truly beautiful day with gorgeous local models, a genius photographer and high spirits as we marvelled at the river flowing again and dreamed about what it might mean if the drought really breaks this year. Over the next few weeks I'll share more images from the shoot with you, and our new AW20 collection, which will be available very, very soon!

Here's a few more of the things that are filling us with inspiration this month...

Clancy Job, Photographer

After fan-girling over Clancy Job's photos for a few years now, I was lucky enough to convince Clancy to take the photos for our AW20 collection this year (see above).  To follow Clancy's Instagram, is to see everyday Aussie life through fresh eyes.  From kids playing under the sprinkler to huge dust storms rolling in, Clancy manages to find, and celebrate, the joy and adventure that is rural living.

Gin Gin Garden Club

With the change of seasons and the cooler mornings, I've been inspired to get back into the (now weed-infested) garden.Gin Gin Garden Club's Instagram account is the BEST source of inspiration, tips and tricks for designing and growing a beautiful but, importantly, resilient country garden.  Especially for those of us trying to contend with scorching hot summers, drought and harsh bore water.  Plus they also sell a hand-picked selection of garden and home goodies.

Company, the podcast

Company is a new podcast created by the endlessly talented Skye Manson, who has also made podcasts with My Open Kitchen, Jumbled Online and writes for Country Style magazine (I know right, overachiever!). Skye has a beautiful interview style and her guests are clever women from the bush and the city with inspiring stories of business and creativity.  In Skye's own words, "Company is about reinvigorating and celebrating country connections" and we can't get enough of that.
So now that your eyes, ears and minds are loaded up with beautiful things, let's leap into March and enjoy the new season.  And don't forget to keep doing those rain dances... there's still plenty of rain needed across the country  xx Penny
